My name is Dirk Fontaine and I would like to be your next city councillor for Ward 12 in Calgary. I am a husband, a father to two amazing children, a proud Calgarian and an equally proud member of the Métis Nation of Alberta. I have lived most of my life in Calgary, mostly in the SE and remember a time long before most of Ward 12 even existed.
I began my career in Information Technology over 25 years ago with a few career changes along the way, but my passion has always been leading people. I subscribe to the ideology of servant leadership, whereas the main goal and responsibility of the leader is to provide service to people they represent. The key characteristics of a servant leader are listening, empathy, healing, awareness, persuasion, conceptualization, foresight, stewardship, commitment to the growth of people, and building community. Of late, these skills have been drastically missing at all levels of government with our elected officials. As your elected representative, I would bring back accountability to the role and would fight each and every day to espouse the virtues of servant leadership for all the communities within Ward 12.
Taxation is a fact of life, and Calgarians have always been willing to pay our fair share to live in the amazing city that we do.
The time to move forward on stalled projects is now. There has been posturing and political games being played on projects such as the green line.
It seems that politicians at all levels, have forgotten that their role is to represent the people and communities that elected them.
Small and Local Businesses are the pillar of any community, and that is no exception in the communities of Ward 12.
My entire career has revolved around working with several different stakeholders working towards a common goal.
